Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said that now we will not give new licenses and registration certificates and will cancel the licenses given earlier.

The West Bengal government on Friday banned hookah bars in the capital Kolkata. The government said that hookahs are affecting health. Announcing the ban, Kolkata Mayor and TMC leader Firhad Hakim said that the state government has ordered the closure of hookah bars operating inside closed spaces.

He asked the police to be strict in enforcing the ban and said that the state government would cancel the licenses granted earlier in the city. Also said that I request to stop the hookah bars running inside the closed places. We will no longer issue new licenses and registration certificates and cancel the licenses granted earlier.

Firhad Hakim said that some intoxicants mixed in hookah are taking the youth in the wrong direction and they are getting addicted to it, which is dangerous. Further said that the administration has received complaints about the use of certain intoxicants, the government is closing down the bars due to its adverse effect on health.
