Russian President
Vladimir Putin's statement regarding the war has come amidst the
US visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said that
Russia now wants to end the war in
Ukraine, but for this a diplomatic solution will have to be found. Putin said that our goal is to end this conflict. We are striving for this and will continue to strive. So we will try to make sure that all this ends and the sooner the better. However, Putin's comments have been met with skepticism by
Ukraine and its allies. The
Russian president said that an early end to the conflict in
Ukraine would essentially involve a diplomatic solution.
At the same time, White House spokesman John Kirby said that Putin has indicated that he is ready for talks. The end of the war that began with
Russia's invasion of
Ukraine on February 24 seems to be far from over. Everything he (Putin) is doing on the ground and in the air creates the image of a man who wants to continue violence against the Ukrainian people and to escalate the war, Kirby told reporters during an online briefing.
Will not make any compromise to end the war: Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the
US tour that he will not make any compromise to end the war with
Russia. We are not going to bow down, he said, paying attention to
US support to counter the
Russian attack. Zelensky told the
US Parliament that in a meeting with President Joe Biden, he proposed a 10-point peace formula, which would provide shared security guarantees in the future.
Situation under control with the help of America
Shortly before this, the
US announced a military aid of $1.85 billion to
Ukraine. In the
US Parliament, Zelensky said, he wanted to come on this visit earlier but his visit at this time shows that the situation is now under control with the help of the
US. The Ukrainian president has put forth a 10-point peace proposal that he hopes will guarantee joint security for decades into the future. We want peace, he said. Zelensky criticized
Russian President
Vladimir Putin for attacking
Ukraine, saying it would be foolish to wait for
Russia to take steps towards peace, as it enjoys being a terrorist state. He expressed hope that the
US Congress will continue to help defend our values, principles and freedoms and will provide an additional $45 billion in aid to
Ukraine.
Russia will increase its military capacity in Ukraine: Putin
Russian President
Vladimir Putin has said that we will further develop our military capacity in West-backed
Ukraine. He said that he would increase the combat readiness of his nuclear arsenal. Putin said during a virtual meeting with high-ranking officials of his country, the armed forces and the combat capability of our armed forces are increasing continuously and every day, we will carry this process forward. Today, our goal is to implement the full range of measures necessary to achieve qualitative renewal and reform of the Armed Forces, Putin said.
