Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also paid tribute to the former Prime Minister on his 98th birth anniversary. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior. He had a deep interest in political activities since his student days. He participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 against the British rule and also went to jail. College and schooling was completed from Gwalior. He graduated from Victoria College, Gwalior. Atal ji studied law from DAV College, Kanpur along with his father. Both used to study in the same class and used to stay in the same room in the hostel. He died on 16 August in the year 2018. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, known as an ideal politician, was the first Prime Minister who formed the government with 26 political parties. In the year 2014, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya were awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously.

Soon after this, the Modi government announced to celebrate Atal ji's birth anniversary as Good Governance Day in India. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make the citizens and especially the students aware of the government's commitment to create a transparent and accountable administration in the country. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the only leader of Indian politics, who has the distinction of reaching the Lok Sabha by winning elections from four different states. Atal Bihari Vajpayee represented Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi in the Lok Sabha. This steadfast craftsman of 'good governance' took a pledge to convert Swaraj into Suraj as soon as he took over as the Prime Minister. Whenever he will be seen in the mirror of history, Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be remembered as the pinnacle man who set high standards of morality in Indian politics.
