Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi on Tuesday. An official source gave this information. The Chief Minister's Office also shared pictures of the meeting, which is being held in the wake of farmers and residents of areas close to forests in the southern state opposing the implementation of a one-kilometre Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) at those places.
Apart from the photographs of the meeting, no other details were released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). An official source had said on Monday that the ESZ issue is likely to be discussed during the meeting. Besides, the delay in getting the central government's nod for Silverline, a semi-high-speed rail project connecting Kasaragod in the north to Thiruvananthapuram in the south, could be a reason for the financial crisis gripping the state in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. It should also be a matter of discussion, said the source.
The state government attributed this to natural calamities and pandemics, perverse policies of the Centre, haphazard implementation of GST, delay in disbursement of GST compensation and reduction in the state's borrowing limit by the central government.
