Tripura Election: Election Commission assures peaceful polling, CPI(M)-Congress met CEO

A nine-member delegation from both the parties had met state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kirankumar Dinkarrao.

The Election Commission on Saturday assured the CPI(M)-Congress delegation that all possible steps would be taken to conduct free, fair and peaceful polls in Tripura. A nine-member delegation from both the parties had met state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kirankumar Dinkarrao.

Voters could not cast their vote in the last five years: 

The Congress delegation included CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhary and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman. Chowdhary told after the meeting, 'Today we have given a representation to the CEO. In this, the CEO has been urged to ensure the democratic rights of the people in view of the experiences of the previous elections. Further said, 'You all know that in the last five years voters could not cast their vote whether it was Panchayat elections or Lok Sabha elections.'

The CEO assured of taking all possible measures 

The CPI(M) state secretary said the CEO assured the delegation that the Election Commission has already started an inquiry into the Majlispur incident and no one would be spared. At the same time, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, 'We informed them about the possible ploy to rig the election process. He assured to take all possible measures so that voters can exercise their democratic right this time.

Order for investigation of attack on bike rally 

The Congress has claimed that a group of BJP-backed goons allegedly attacked a group of goons during a bike rally at four places in Jirania sub-division of Majlispur assembly constituency on Wednesday. 15 party workers and office bearers including AICC general secretary Ajay Kumar were injured in the attack. On the other hand, the Election Commission has ordered an inquiry into the attack on the Congress bike rally on Thursday.
