Sania Mirza has faced defeat in her last Grand Slam. In the mixed doubles final, Sania and Rohan Bopanna lost 6-7, 6-2. Sania had already announced that this would be her last tournament. After this, she was eliminated in the second round in the women's doubles and had to face defeat in the final in the mixed doubles. With this defeat, Sania's dream of a victorious farewell was shattered.

In the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open, Brazilian pair of Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos defeated Sania and Rohan by a margin of 6-7, 2-6. Sania's illustrious tennis career came to an end with this defeat. 

Sania Mirza has won three women's doubles Grand Slam titles and three mixed doubles titles in her career. While Bopanna has won one mixed doubles Grand Slam title. The unseeded Indian pair of Sania and Bopanna defeated Desirea Krawczyk and Neil Skupski 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 10-6 in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2023. The pair got a walkover in the quarterfinal match.

The Indian pair defeated Uruguay and Japanese pair of Ariel Behar and Makato Ninomiya 6-4, 7-6 (11-9) to reach the quarterfinals.

Sania-Rohan could not maintain the rhythm in the final Sania and Rohan Bopanna's pair had lost only one set before the final match in this tournament. In the semi-final match, the pair faced a narrow one-set defeat. Meanwhile, the men's doubles pair of Bopanna and Matthew Ebden bowed out in the first round. Sania and Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina were ousted in the second round of women's doubles.
