Asaram Bapu convicted in the case of raping a disciple, Gandhinagar court will announce the punishment tomorrow

Sant Asaram Bapu, who is serving life sentence in a rape case, has got a bigger blow from a court in Gandhinagar.

Sant Asaram Bapu, who is serving life sentence in a rape case, has got a bigger blow from a court in Gandhinagar. The Gandhinagar court has convicted Asaram Bapu in the rape of a female disciple. This case was registered in 2013. Sessions court judge DK Soni reserved his order on the quantum of sentence for Tuesday (January 31).

During the hearing in this case, the court acquitted six other accused including Asaram's wife due to lack of evidence. 

Special Public Prosecutor RC Kodekar informed about the hearing held in the case today. He said the court has accepted the prosecution's case and convicted Asaram on Monday for illegal detention under sections 376 2(c) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. 

Please tell that Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail in another rape case.

What was the matter?

Actually, in October 2013, a woman from Surat filed a case of rape and illegal confinement against Asaram Bapu and seven others. One of the accused had died during the pendency of the trial. The police had filed a charge sheet in this case in July 2014.

As per the FIR lodged at Ahmedabad's Chandkheda police station, Asaram Bapu allegedly raped the victim woman several times between 2001 and 2006. She was living in her ashram on the outskirts of the city when this happened to her.

There have been many allegations  in the past as well. The incident of death of children in the ashram is of 2008. Two children studying in Asaram's Motera Gurukul died suspiciously in the ashram. During that time, Asaram was accused that children had died in the ashram due to tantra-mantra.

Sexual exploitation of women in the ashram 

In 2009, Asaram Bapu again came into controversy in the case of tantra-mantra and black magic. A person named Raju Chandak accused Asaram Bapu of trying to kill him through black magic and tantra mantra. Raju Chandak also alleged that women are sexually abused in Asaram.

In December 2012, a program of Asaram was organized in Pali district of Rajasthan. After the end of the story, Asaram mounted a trolley and started showering chocolates as prasad from an electronic machine. This hurt many people. Hariram of Sojat village had also come to listen to the story. The chocolate hurt his eyes so much that he had to go straight to the hospital. He got a case of negligence registered against Asaram.

A program was organized in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh in February 2013. Here a devotee bent down to touch the feet of Asaram Bapu, then Asaram kicked him. Hurt by this, the devotee could not even walk properly for a long time. On the complaint of the devotee, the court has issued a bailable warrant against Asaram.

Asaram Bapu is also embroiled in land disputes. A case has been registered against them for occupying about 100 acres of land in Ratlam. The case is of 2001 when Asaram's Yoga Vedanta Samiti took a land near Mangalaya temple for 11 days. But after 11 days the land was not vacated. This land worth Rs 700 crore belongs to 'Jayant Vitamins Limited'.

Asaram, his son Narayan Sai and some others were made accused in this land case. Earlier in the year 2000, the matter of grabbing another land on him was in headlines.

On the occasion of Holi, Asaram played Holi with devotees with thousands of liters of water. It was opposed in Maharashtra. Asaram Bapu said on Maharashtra government's save water campaign that 'water does not belong to anyone's father'. After this statement, Asaram got embroiled in controversies. It came to an end when he said in a meeting held in Ratlam that 'there is no shortage of water on earth'. If I am lying then you all die.
