Two foreign nationals died in avalanche in Gulmarg, 19 evacuated to a safe place, rescue team on the spot

The news of the death of two foreign nationals has come to the fore due to a heavy avalanche on the Afravat peak of Gulmarg.

Two foreign nationals have died after a massive avalanche hit the Afravat peak of Gulmarg in Baramulla district. Police has rescued 19 foreigners by running a rescue operation. Relief and rescue operations are also going on in the entire area. SSP Baramulla said that some skiers were reported trapped in the avalanche on Wednesday. After this the rescue was started. The bodies of two foreign skiers have been recovered. Police teams along with other agencies are engaged in the rescue operation. 

Meanwhile, traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway has come to a standstill after landslides occurred at several places in Ramban district. Administrative officers and employees of the company building the highway are working to restore it.

With the weather clearing up, the risk of avalanches has increased in snow-prone areas. According to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, the weather will be almost clear for the next ten days. In this, from February 1 to 4, there can be up to 60 percent fog in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Light rain may occur in some parts on February 5. It was sunny in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. In other districts along with the valley, it is still cold in the day as well as in the night. Traffic was restored on 20 link roads in district Poonch. Several link roads have been opened in Rajouri. Jammu started the day with clear weather and it was sunny throughout the day.  

The clear weather brought relief to the devotees who reached Vaishno Devi Bhavan including Katra. Ropeway service including helicopter, battery car continues. Due to the lack of devotees in the building, the portals of the ancient cave have been opened after 26 January. According to the registration room, about 12 thousand devotees got registered on Tuesday. In the month of January this year till January 30, five lakh 11 thousand devotees paid obeisance at the door of the mother.
