Supreme Court: Approval of the appointments of five new judges for the Supreme Court, Rijiju gave information

With the swearing in of five judges as Supreme Court judges, the total strength of the judges in the Supreme Court will increase to 32.

The Central Government has approved the appointments of five new judges to the Supreme Court. Earlier, the names of three High Court Chief Justices and two High Court judges were recommended by the Supreme Court collegium. The Supreme Court Collegium had sent the names of these judges to the Central Government for approval on December 13 last year.

Total number of judges increased to 32

After these five judges take oath as Supreme Court judges, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court will increase to 32. There can be a total of 34 judges in the Supreme Court including the Chief Justice. Earlier, the number of Supreme Court judges was 27. On January 31, the Supreme Court Collegium sent two more names to the government for approval, including the names of Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Arvind Kumar.ย
