At least five people, mostly policemen, were injured in a blast on Sunday in Quetta in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province. This is the second incident of a planned attack by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) targeting security officials in recent days. 

Police officials said the blast took place in the Quetta police line area and the injured were admitted to the city civil hospital. The spot has been cordoned off. The nature of the blast was not immediately known. Banned outfit TTP has claimed responsibility for the attack. It said security officials were targeted in the blast.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match being played at the Nawab Akbar Bugti Stadium in Quetta had
to be stopped for a while due to the explosion, in which high-profile players like captain Babar Azam and former all-rounder Shahid Afridi were forced to stop. Profile players were participating. Officials said that no player was injured.

TTP is believed to be an organization with close ties to Al Qaeda. It has also threatened to target top leaders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's PMN-L and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's PPP if the ruling coalition continues to take tough measures against terrorists. 

TTP responsible for several deadly attacks after 2007

In 2007, formed as a conglomerate of several terrorist organizations, TTP broke the ceasefire with the federal government and ordered its terrorists to carry out terrorist attacks across the country. The group has been blamed for several deadly attacks in Pakistan, including the 2009 army headquarters attack, attacks on military bases and the 2008 Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing.
