A three-member ministerial committee headed by the Prime Minister has decided to lift the ban from Wikipedia.

The ban on online knowledge platform Wikipedia has been lifted in Pakistan. On the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the operation of Wikipedia was resumed immediately. A few days ago, the government of Pakistan had banned the world-famous Wikipedia.

Council of three ministers took the decision

A three-member ministerial committee headed by the Prime Minister has taken the decision to lift the ban on Wikipedia. Apart from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan's Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Economic Affairs and Political Affairs Minister Ayaz Sadiq and Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb were included in this. This Council of Ministers suggested lifting the ban on Wikipedia immediately. According to the report of Geo News, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had asked Wikipedia to remove some controversial content on February 1. However, then Wikipedia was not able to remove the disputed content. Two days after this, the Government of Pakistan had banned Wikipedia.

What did the Prime Minister's Office say?

On Monday, February 6, the matter reached Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Then he discussed it with a council consisting of three ministers. After this the Prime Minister issued a statement. According to the statement, the committee said, "Wikipedia is a useful site that supports the dissemination of knowledge and information to the general public, students and academics." Banning an entire site to prevent some objectionable content from reaching people is not the right way to go. This sweeping ban has unintended consequences. That's why it is being started again.
