Gang rape case: Ex-Chief Secretary misused position to destroy evidence in charge sheet

During interrogation of Soni, it has come to light that accused Narayan had sent some voice notes to Soni through WhatsApp, which are vital evidence regarding destruction of evidence in this case.

The Special Investigation Team has filed a charge sheet against former Chief Secretary Jitendra Narayan in connection with the rape of a 21-year-old girl in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The charge sheet revealed that Narayan misused his position to destroy evidence of his presence at his official residence last year.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was sent for extraction. After which it was revealed (based on chats between Narayan and Soni) that he had sent a 4 TB hard disk drive to Delhi through a private airline.

2020, before leaving for Delhi (on receipt of his transfer letter), Narayan called CCTV technician Sawab Hussain to his residence and asked him to delete or erase the data in the hard disk. The charge sheet states, Hussain told him that deleting the data would take a long time, following which Narayan asked him to remove the hard disks from the NVR and he removed two 4 TB hard disks and handed them over to Narayan on July 23, 2022. handed over.

Former chief secretary Narayan instructed RL Rishi (suspended labor commissioner and one of the accused in the case) to bring a girl to his bungalow in a VoIP call through WhatsApp, and then Rishi instructed Sandeep Singh alias Rinku (a Port Blair based businessman) , who is also an accused) and persuaded the victim to carry out Narayan's instruction.
