This agreement between India and Guyana provides the legal framework for air operations between the two countries.

The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave its approval for the signing of the Air Services Agreement between India and Guyana. This agreement will pave the way for flight service between the two countries. The agreement will come into full force after the exchange of diplomatic notes between the two countries. 

A release issued by the Center on Wednesday said the signing of an air services agreement with Guyana would create a framework for provision of air services between the two countries. Let us tell you that according to the 2012 census, Indians have a sizeable population in Guyana and are the largest ethnic group, comprising about 40 percent of the population.

But it also gave its approval for the ratification of the three protocols related to the amendment in the Chicago Conference. The First Protocol incorporates Article 3 of the Chicago Convention and prohibits member states from resorting to the use of weapons against civilian aircraft. The Second Protocol provides for an amendment to Article 50(a) to increase the strength of the ICAO Council from 36 to 40. And the third protocol is to amend Article 56 to increase the power of the Air Navigation Commission from 18 to 21.
