In the assembly elections held on February 16, the BJP had won 32 seats. The number of assembly seats in Tripura is 60. To form the government in the state, 31 seats are needed. BJP has absolute majority to form the government. Its ally, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura, got one seat. The tribal-based Tipra Motha Party, which contested 42 seats, emerged as the second largest party with 13 seats. The CPI(M) got 11 seats, while the Congress won three seats.
