Nitish Kumar was earlier scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Tuesday morning and meet Mamata at her Kalighat residence in south Kolkata the same evening.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is coming to Kolkata to meet Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee this afternoon with the aim of uniting the opposition parties before the Lok Sabha elections 2024. According to sources, Nitish Kumar will come to Kolkata in the afternoon by a special plane and will meet Mamta Banerjee. Under the programme, Nitish will also meet Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on Monday itself after staying for three-four hours in Kolkata.

Meeting to forge non-Congress alliance?

According to a senior Trinamool Congress leader, the meeting will discuss opposition unity in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Significantly, in the last few months, Mamata Banerjee has held meetings with many non-BJP and non-Congress leaders regarding opposition unity. Nitish is expected to stay in Kolkata for three to four hours, which includes a one-and-a-half or two-hour meeting with his Bengal counterpart.

Nitish Kumar was earlier scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Tuesday morning and meet Mamata at her Kalighat residence in south Kolkata the same evening. However, now there has been a change in the schedule and Nitish is coming on Monday only.

Bihar CM will also meet Akhilesh

Information has also been received that after meeting Mamta, Nitish Kumar will directly go to Lucknow to meet Akhilesh Yadav. Earlier last month, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had met Mamta in Kalighat, Kolkata. In the meeting, both the leaders agreed to keep distance from Congress and focus on unity of regional forces against BJP in 2024 elections.

Mamta is also trying to unite the opposition

Immediately after meeting Akhilesh, Mamata went on a tour of Odisha and held a meeting with Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik there. After this, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and leader of Janata Dal (Secular) HD Kumaraswamy came to Kolkata and met Mamta. After this, Mamta had a phone conversation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin last week.

Nitish has even held a meeting with Congress leaders

The clear reason for Bihar CM's meeting with Mamta Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav has not been revealed, although till now it is being seen as an attempt to unite the opposition without Congress. However, there is also a screw that Nitish Kumar has recently gone to Delhi along with Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and held a closed door meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi. In such a situation, what policy is made for the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year, a lot is expected to be clear from today's meeting of Nitish Kumar.
