Seychelles Navy launched a major maritime operation based on Indian real time inputs and intercepted a boat carrying high value drugs. Seychelles Coast Guard seized several packets of drugs. Indian intelligence sources said that a ship seized at sea near Seychelles had over 50 large bags containing packets of illegal substances. Later the ship and its seven crew members were escorted by the Seychelles Coast Guard to their base on Ile du Port. Where they reached around one o'clock on Saturday afternoon.

They had to use force to stop the boat whose crew was uncooperative, said Seychelles News Agency, quoting Public Relations Officer of the Defense Force (SDF) and commanding officer of the special forces unit, Lieutenant Colonel Archil Mondon. According to Indian intelligence sources, Seychelles President Wavell Ramkalawan, other senior members of the Seychelles Defense Force (SDF) and Seychelles Police were all present during the search operation of the yacht and have seized the suspected drugs.

President Ramkalawan expressed his gratitude to the SDF, police and intelligence agencies, as well as all other important partners who participated in the recent anti-drug operation, which resulted in the largest amount of drugs seized.

“This shows the magnitude of the challenge of the drug problem facing our country and the government, along with all its stakeholders and partners, is committed to protecting our people, especially the youth of Seychelles,” Ramkalawan was quoted as saying by the Seychelles News Agency. Committed to take this fight forward. We will not give up in this fight and I once again call upon everyone to join us in this fight. Congratulations on a job well done."

Police said they have not ascertained the type of banned substances seized in the operation. They suspect it to be illegal drugs.
