Seeing the seriousness of the matter, senior officers started monitoring the matter.

NCB's DDG-NR / CVO i.e. Deputy Director General Northern Zonal Gyaneshwar Singh constituted SET i.e. Special Inquiry Team on 21 October 2021 which investigated the allegations against Sameer Wankhede.

Private cruise raided

The investigation found that Sameer Wankhede, who was the director of the Mumbai zone, along with his team VV Singh, Ashish Ranjan, and two private witnesses KP Goswami and his bodyguard Prabhakar Sail raided the private cruise.

During the investigation, the accused caught 27 people, which is known from the I-Note i.e. Information Note, but later it was changed and 10 names were added, out of which some names were added later. Investigation revealed that some people against whom there was evidence were released on the spot and Aryan Khan against whom there was no evidence was caught.

It is alleged that after this, KP Goswami along with his partner Sanvil D'Souza demanded 25 crores from Shahrukh Khan in exchange for saving Oryan Khan. The agreement was fixed at 18 crores and 50 lakh rupees were also given. But when the matter came into the limelight and things started getting out of hand, some money was sent back. Goswami was arrested on 28 October 2021 by the Pune police in an old case of cheating.

Apart from this, SET further investigated Sameer Wankhede and found that he had gone on foreign tours many times and spent a lot, but neither NCB nor its parent cadre i.e. IRS- C&CE (Custom & Central Excise) department has full information about it. Chargesheet not filed against 6 including Aryan Khan

After investigation of this entire case, NCB filed a chargesheet against 14 accused arrested from a private cruise on 27 May 2022 but there was no evidence against 6 people including Aryan Khan, so No charge sheet was filed against him. KP Singh's bodyguard Prabhakar, who was present during the raid on the cruise, died of a heart attack in April 2022, a month before the charge sheet was filed.

After NCB's SET investigation, on May 11, 2023, a complaint was given by the NCB officer against Sameer Wankhede, VV Singh, Ashish Ranjan, KP Goswami, and Sanvil D'Souza, after which the CBI registered a case on the same day against Sameer Wankhede and others. Collected important evidence by raiding 29 places of the accused.
