West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed her willingness to attend the meeting earlier this month, but later declined.

Chief Ministers of four states, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have announced not to participate in the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting on Saturday. These include Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Kejriwal on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he would not be able to attend the meeting because of the Centre's recent ordinance on transfer of bureaucrats in Delhi. The AAP leader said that there is strong protest against the ordinance not only in Delhi, but among the people of the entire country.

Prime Minister will preside over the meeting

The 8th meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council will be held at Pragati Maidan on Saturday. The main theme of the meeting to be chaired by the Prime Minister is Developed India @ 2047: Role of Team India. The commission said in a statement that key topics including MSME, infrastructure and investment, women empowerment, health and nutrition, skill development, and momentum power will be discussed in the meeting. The chief ministers or lieutenant governors of all states and union territories have been invited to the meeting.

Mamta first said yes, later turned

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed her willingness to attend the meeting earlier this month, but later declined. The Center has 'refused' the Trinamool government's request to send the state's finance minister and chief secretary.
