China has once again blocked the declaration of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Sajid Mir, who was involved in the 26/11 attack, as a global terrorist. China has blocked the proposal of
India and America in the
United Nations. Even before this, China has become an obstacle in declaring Sajid Mir as a global terrorist. Sajid Mir is included in the list of
India's most wanted. In 2008, there was a terrorist attack in
Mumbai by terrorists from
Pakistan. More than 166 civilians were killed in this attack which lasted for about five days.
China blocked a proposal to blacklist Mir as a global terrorist under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the
United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The resolution recommended confiscation of his property, travel and arms restrictions. For this, the proposal was presented by America and
India supported it.
In September last year too, China had blocked a proposal to declare Mir a terrorist in the
United Nations and Beijing has now stalled the proposal. Mir is one of
India's most wanted terrorists and has a
US$5 million bounty on him for his role in the 26/11
Mumbai terror attacks.
Last year, Mir was sentenced to over 15 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in
Pakistan in a terror financing case. Earlier
Pakistani officials had claimed that Mir had died, but
Pakistan could not prove it.
First there was a hurdle regarding Masood Azhar
Even before this, China has put obstacles in passing the resolutions of
India and other countries against terrorism. Last month, it got a technical hold on a
US-backed proposal to blacklist Abdul Rauf Azhar, brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar and a senior leader of the
Pakistan-based terror outfit. Earlier, he had also become an obstacle in the proposal to declare Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.
India played Sajid Mir's audio clip
Earlier in October 2022, at the
United Nations Security Council meeting,
India had exposed the
Pakistani connection to the 2008
Mumbai terror attack in front of the international community. It told that the terrorists' handlers were plotting the
Mumbai attack and how they executed the attack by giving orders. It was Sajid Mir who gave this order, who was sitting in
Pakistan at that time giving instructions over the phone to 10 terrorists who had come to
Mumbai.
In this regard,
India had also played an audio clip in front of the International Security Council. The audio clip is from
Mumbai's Chabad House where Sajid Mir was telling the terrorists, 'Wherever people's movement is seen. If any person is walking on the roof or someone is coming or going, fire on him. He does not know what is happening there.
Who is terrorist Sajid Mir
Pakistani terrorist Sajid Mir is the same, during the
Mumbai attack on 26 November 2008, he was giving instructions to terrorist Ajmal Kasab and all other terrorists for the attack on the phone by being in constant contact with him. Kasab, the terrorist caught alive, had taken the name of Sajid Mir. Lashkar's founder Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi were also involved in the conspiracy of
Mumbai attack.
