The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has rejected the Sikh Gurdwara Amendment Bill 2023 passed in the Punjab Assembly. In this regard, a special meeting of the General House of SGPC has been called on June 26 to take the opinion of the members and pass a resolution against the decision.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami told the media after meeting with the members that this day will be remembered in black letters in the history of SGPC of 103 years. The Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab has directly interfered in the arrangements of the Gurdwara. The government has passed an unconstitutional bill. This will not be allowed to be implemented at any cost. The Sikh community will never forget this attack on the SGPC by the Punjab government in independent
India.
SGPC will give a befitting reply to this decision. Its outline has been called special general meeting. Dhami said the Panth would never tolerate government interference in Sikhism and Sikh institutions. Even at the time of the establishment of the SGPC, the
British government constituted a government committee, which was rejected by the Sikhs and the Panth formed its own committee. The Punjab government headed by Bhagwant Singh Mann is following the same path.
Government is weakening SGPC by making broadcast an issue
Dhami said that if the Punjab government tries to implement this black law, the Sikh community knows how to deal with it strictly. The State Government on its own cannot make any amendment in the Sikh Gurdwara Act, it can be done only with the recommendations of the General House of the SGPC.
Dhami said that the Punjab government is weakening the SGPC by making Gurbani broadcast an issue. In the matter of Gurbani broadcast, the Shiromani Committee is already working through a sub-committee. In this regard, the future priorities have been decided to a large extent in the two meetings. This is being done as per the orders of Shri Akal Takht Sahib. After this, the government of Bhagwant Singh Mann is deliberately confusing the issue just to gain popularity.
