During the heavy rain at 6 in the evening, tons of debris suddenly slipped from the hill and came on the highway.

The Badrinath Highway was blocked at Chhinka at around 6 pm due to heavy debris coming from the hill. Due to which about 7000 pilgrims are stuck here from both sides of the highway. District Disaster Management Officer Nand Kishore Joshi said that after the opening of the highway, the pilgrims will be sent towards their destination. On the other hand, a landslide occurred from the rock over the tunnel in Patalganga.

Despite the rain on Wednesday, the highway remained smooth in Chhinka since morning. Due to which the movement of travel vehicles continued. During the heavy rain at 6 in the evening, tons of debris suddenly slipped from the hill and came on the highway. Due to which a long line of travel vehicles started from both sides of the highway. Many pilgrims decided to stay at Pipalkoti, Chamoli, Birhi, Nandprayag due to non-opening of the highway, while many pilgrims waited for the highway to open.

Movement of vehicles from Gadera in Kanchanganga

At the same time, in Kanchan Ganga, four kilometers before Badrinath Dham, the movement of vehicles is being done by Border Roads Organization (BRO) by laying stones and soil in the gadere for the movement of vehicles. Here the highway has reached a very tight condition.

On Tuesday, about 100 meters of the Kanchan Ganga was washed away due to the spate. Here the movement of vehicles is being done from Gadera itself. Many vehicles are getting stuck in the mud. BRO officials say that the improvement work of the highway will be done here when the weather becomes normal.
