The attack on the embassy was reported to have taken place following demonstrations by supporters of Shia cleric Muqtada Sadr.

Hundreds of miscreants gathered in Baghdad, Iraq, attacked the Swedish embassy on Thursday morning. Not only this, the mob also set fire to the embassy. News agency Reuters informed about the incident by quoting sources. It has been told that the staff of the embassy was not harmed in the attack, although no further information has been given.

The attack on the embassy was reported to have taken place following demonstrations by supporters of Shia cleric Muqtada Sadr. Sadr's supporters were protesting against the burning of the Quran, the holy scripture of Muslims, in Sweden. Significantly, the incident of Quran burning in Sweden has already been criticized by many Islamic countries.

One Baghdad, a popular Iraqi Telegram channel believed to be a supporter of Muqtada Sadr, posted several videos of a crowd gathered outside the Swedish embassy late on Wednesday night (around 1 am). In this, some miscreants were also seen entering the embassy. After some time in the video, a plume of smoke can be seen rising from the embassy premises. However, these videos could not be verified. It is not yet clear how many people were present in the embassy at the time of the attack.
