Maharashtra-Gujarat: 19 killed in Vidarbha, 3000 people stranded in Junagadh; water entered houses in punjab

The Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has been facing the havoc of heavy rains for the past several days.

Due to heavy rains in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, 19 people have lost their lives in the last 10 days. At the same time, more than 4,500 houses have been destroyed and 54,000 hectares of crops have also been damaged. On the other hand, Gujarat is also suffering from floods. Junagadh is inundated everywhere after 241 mm of rain on Sunday morning. 3000 people have been shifted to a safer place. On the other hand, at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Airport in Ahmedabad, water was seen everywhere from the runway to the parking lot.

Water only water in Vidarbha region

The Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has been facing the havoc of heavy rains for the past several days. The Meteorological Center said that during the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday, Akola recorded 107.9 mm of rain. Vidarbha's Amravati division is more affected by the rains. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that the state is fully prepared to deal with the situation arising out of heavy rains. Officials said three deaths each in Gadchiroli and Bhandara districts, two each in Wardha and Gondia and one in Chandrapur have been reported since July 13 due to rain-related incidents. At the same time, three people have lost their lives in Yavatmal and one person each in Akola and Buldhana. State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil visited Yavatmal on Sunday to review the situation.

Raigad: Rescue operation called off, 57 still missing

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has called off search and rescue operations in connection with Wednesday's landslide at Irshalwadi in Raigad district in Maharashtra. Maharashtra minister Uday Samant told a press conference on Sunday that even the relatives of those missing believed they were buried under the debris and had no objection to calling off rescue operations. The minister said prohibitory orders under section 144 have been imposed at the landslide site. Samant said that more than 1100 people, including NDRF personnel, were engaged in the rescue and relief work which went on for four days.

Landslide on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

A landslide occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Adoshi village in Raigad district on Sunday night. Due to this the traffic going towards Mumbai came to a standstill. A police officer gave information about this. No one was injured in the landslide that occurred around 10.30 pm, he said.

He said that three lanes of the expressway leading to Mumbai have been badly affected by the landslide. A JCB machine, around 25 dumpers have been deployed to clear the route and personnel from police as well as other agencies are present at the spot.

Punjab: Ghaggar water enters villages, embankment breached near Anandpur Sahib
Ghaggar and Sutlej are in spate due to heavy rains. Due to Ghaggar water entering the villages of Patiala, there has been a lot of damage. Crops have been submerged in nearby villages of Bhagpur and Dadwa. On the other hand, in Hariwal village of Anandpur Sahib, the fields have been flooded due to the breaking of the Dhussi dam built on Sutlej.

Jammu and Kashmir: Landslide in Ramban, cloudburst in Kupwara

Two vehicles were buried under the landslide in Harug area of Dharamkund, 26 km from Ramban district. However, the State Disaster Response Force immediately evacuated both the drivers. Due to cloudburst in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, water entered houses and shops in Jirahama, Lolab, Shatpora, Batpora, Chalgund.

Himachal: Rain stopped, but the situation worsened

696 roads, 1052 transformers and 370 drinking water schemes remained suspended in Himachal on Sunday despite rains stopping. In Uttarakhand, dozens of roads, including the Arcot-Himachal road, were blocked due to heavy rains and landslides near Arcot market.

Energy consumption increased to 408 billion units

Due to unseasonal rains and Biparjoy cyclone, energy consumption in the country increased by 1.8 per cent to 408 billion units during the April-June quarter. According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), energy consumption in the country was 400.44 billion units in the same quarter of 2022.

Highest consumption 223.23 GW

The highest consumption was 223.23 GW in the June quarter. It was 215.5 GW in the same period of 2022 and 194 GW in 2021. The energy ministry estimated that summer demand could reach 229 GW. But, due to biperjoy and unseasonal heavy rains, this prediction could not prove to be correct.
