Delhi's Patiala House Court has summoned Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia in a defamation case.

Delhi's Patiala House Court has summoned Olympic medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia in a defamation case. The court has summoned Punia as an accused on September 6. Wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya has filed a defamation case against Bajrang Punia, hearing which the court has sent summons to Bajrang.

In the criminal defamation complaint, complainant Naresh Dahiya said that during the protest at Jantar Mantar on May 10, Bajrang Punia had made derogatory remarks against him at a press conference.

Under the leadership of top Indian wrestlers, 30 wrestlers of the country sat on strike in January 2023. Wrestlers had also made serious allegations against Wrestling Association President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and several coaches. He had said that Brij Bhushan and many coaches sexually exploit women players and women coaches. However, the wrestlers called off the strike after talks with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. After waiting for several months, when proper action was not taken against the President of the Wrestling Association, the wrestlers again sat on the dharna in April and remained on dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for more than a month. Meanwhile, Bajrang had given such a statement, on the basis of which Naresh Dahiya has filed a defamation case.
