In July 2017, the accused barged into a house and sexually assaulted a domestic help who was ironing clothes after rendering her unconscious.

An Indian-origin man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in Singapore for sexually assaulting a domestic help. The court also sentenced the accused to 12 lashes as punishment. The accused has been identified as Mark Kalaivanan Tamilarasan (44 years). Mark pleaded guilty to four charges, including sexual assault, domestic trespass, sexual assault, outraging modesty and impersonating a public servant.

Detention order for 18 years

The court finds Mark a habitual criminal and sentences him to 18 years of house arrest so that he does not harm anyone in the future. Let us tell you that in July 2017, the accused forcibly entered a house and sexually assaulted the domestic help who was ironing clothes. The accused had committed the crime when he had come out after serving 16 years in prison for rape.

The prosecutor had demanded that the accused be kept under house arrest for 20 years. However, on the emotional demand of the family members of the accused, the court again prepared the report of his behavior, in that report also demanded to keep Mark under house arrest for the maximum time. Justice Pang Khang Chu then sentenced the accused to 18 years of house arrest.
