A major incident took place in Mizoram's Aizawl on Wednesday. Here 18 people died due to the collapse of an under-construction railway bridge. The accident happened near Sairang area. At the same time, the Railways has given its statement on this incident, in which it has been told what is the reason behind such a big accident.
This caused the accident
The railway said that such a big accident happened due to the fall of a girder machine during the construction of the bridge. This machine is a special-purpose mobile gantry crane used in bridge construction. Also, this machine is used for lifting and supporting bridge sections and girders.

A railway spokesperson said the gantry that collapsed was designed by a STUP consultant and tested by IIT
Guwahati. The spokesperson said that a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the matter. On this matter, the railway spokesperson claimed that the part of the bridge which has already been built is still intact. The bridge didn't collapse, it was a gantry that fell during launching on a bridge under construction.
This bridge is part of the Bhairavi-Sairang new railway line project, under which 130 bridges are to be constructed. Bairabi Sairang Line is 51 km long from Bairabi to Sairang under the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of
Indian Railways. The rail line consists of 130 bridges, 23 tunnels and four stations - Hortoki, Kawanpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.
PM Modi expressed grief over the accident
Prime Minister Modi also tweeted about this incident. He expressed grief over the accident and announced a compensation of Rs two lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. At the same time, an assistance of Rs 50 thousand was announced for the injured.

Mizoram CM Zoramthanga also tweeted. He expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He thanked the people who came forward to help the injured after the accident.
