The decision to make cylinders cheaper is not an election stunt: Anurag Thakur

On the decision to make cylinders cheaper, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that this is not an election stunt. He said, “We have not let the heat reach the consumers even after the continuous increase in international prices amidst all the challenges. People were given the benefit of discounts from time to time, when the prices were skyrocketing in the world. Even then Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government gave relief to the people. When the global prices were unbridled, the prices in India increased by only 23 percent. During that time also 21 lakh crore rupees subsidy was paid. The decision to give subsidy should not be linked to elections."

Ujjwala cylinder will be available for Rs 703

After the government's decision, 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be given to Ujjwala consumers for Rs 703. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, 12 cylinders are given per year and the benefit of subsidy is directly transferred to the beneficiary's account. Under this scheme, women are given a gas stove and a cylinder free of cost. So far 9.60 crore Ujjwala connections have been distributed. After giving 75 lakh new connections, the number of beneficiaries of this scheme will reach 10.35 crore.
