According to news agency PTI, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera said that if slaughtering of animals is not stopped then Himachal Pradesh will suffer a huge collapse. You are killing innocent animals. Addressing the students, Behera said that landslides, cloud bursts and many other things are happening frequently.

These are all effects of cruelty to animals. He further said that to become a good person you have to refuse to eat meat. Then the students were asked to take an oath not to eat meat. There was no reaction from Behera on this controversy. His comments attracted criticism from netizens.

This is not the first time that Behera has courted controversy with his controversial comments. Last year he hit the headlines for claiming that he was involved in exorcism at his friend's apartment to rid the family of evil spirits by chanting holy mantras.
