Tremendous earthquake tremors were felt in Morocco late on Friday night. The intensity of this earthquake has been measured at 6.8 on the Richter scale. Morocco's Interior Ministry said that at least 296 people have died due to the earthquake, while 153 are injured.

According to local media reports, the death toll from the earthquake may increase significantly. The Moroccan organization that keeps track of earthquakes has reported the intensity of the earthquake to be beyond seven. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 18.5 km, 71 km south-west of the tourist city of Marrakesh. The tremors were felt here at around 11.11 pm local time. After some time, aftershocks of the earthquake were also felt at these places, whose intensity has been measured at 4.9.

According to the Moroccan Interior Ministry, the most damage from this earthquake has been done to the old settlements outside the city. Many citizens of Morocco have also posted videos and pictures related to it on social media, in which buildings can be seen turning into clouds of dust after the collapse. Especially in Marrakesh which has got the status of World Heritage Site from UNESCO. Many tourists here have also posted videos of people running and screaming for life after the earthquake.
