Mumbai Indians secure their maiden victory in IPL 2024 by defeating Delhi Capitals. Romario Shepherd’s aggressive innings propels Mumbai to a formidable total of 234 runs.

Five-time champion Mumbai Indians finally opened the account of victory. Mumbai, captained by Hardik Pandya, defeated Delhi Capitals by 29 runs in the 20th match of IPL. With this victory, Mumbai has 2 points from 4 matches. Earlier, Mumbai had lost all its three matches. This is the fourth defeat of Delhi Capitals under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant in five matches. Romario Shepherd played an important role in Mumbai's victory, who batted aggressively and took the team's score to 234. This is Mumbai's highest total at Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing the target, Delhi Capitals scored 205 runs for 8 wickets. The pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw could not get a good start. When Warner was out after scoring 10 runs on 8 balls, the team's score was 22 runs. After this, Delhi lost the wicket of Prithvi Shaw who played an inning of 66 runs in 40 balls with the help of 8 fours and 3 sixes. Abhishek Porel contributed 41 runs while captain Rishabh Pant departed after scoring one run. Akshar Patel was run out after scoring 8 runs while Lalit Yadav returned to the pavilion after scoring 3 runs. Kumar Kushagra's account was also not opened. Tristan Stubbs returned unbeaten after scoring 71 runs on 25 balls. Pacer Gerald Coetzee took maximum 4 wickets for Mumbai.

Mumbai scored 234 runs for 5 wickets. Earlier, with the help of an aggressive start from Rohit Sharma and an unbeaten inning of 39 runs from 10 balls by Romario Shepherd, Mumbai Indians batted first and scored 5 wickets despite slowing down in the middle overs. Made a big score of 234 runs. Even though Rohit Sharma (49 runs on 27 balls) and Ishan Kishan (42 runs on 23 balls) could not prolong their innings, they gave a good start to the team. After his dismissal, Tim David (45 not out off 21 balls), captain Hardik Pandya (39 runs off 33 balls) and Shepherd took over the responsibility well.

Romario Shepherd scored 32 runs in one over. Shepherd scored 32 runs with the help of four sixes and two fours in the last over of the innings of Enrique Norcia (65/2). Akshar Patel was the most successful bowler of Delhi. He took 2 wickets for 35 runs. For Mumbai, Rohit and Kishan added 80 runs for the first wicket. The contribution of Rohit was greater in this, who adopted an aggressive attitude from the beginning. The Indian captain started by hitting two fours on Ishant Sharma and then hit sixes on consecutive balls of Jhay Richardson. In the fourth over, he welcomed Akshar Patel with sixes and fours. Rohit also hit three fours on another spinner Lalit Yadav, due to which Mumbai was successful in scoring 75 runs without any loss in the powerplay.

Akshar prevented Rohit from completing his half-century by bowling him. However, Akshar did not allow Rohit to complete his half-century by bowling him immediately afterwards. He hit six fours and three sixes in his innings. Suryakumar Yadav's return was not memorable. Enrique Norcia did not even allow him to open an account. Suryakumar could play only two balls. He was caught at mid-on while trying to play a lofted drive. Kishan also could not prolong his innings. He hit sixes on the left-arm spinner and Norkia before being caught back by Akshar's ball. By taking an excellent catch in Akshar, his innings was limited to four fours and two sixes.

David and Hardik added 60 runs for the fifth wicket. Tilak Verma (06) also could not last long, due to which Mumbai's problems increased. This slowed down the run rate because despite Hardik being at the crease, Delhi bowlers did not allow him to play freely. David brought life to the Mumbai fans by hitting a six on Richardson. Along with Hardik, he scored 17 runs in the last over of Khalil Ahmed.
