In a significant political development, senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Ashfaq Karim resigns from the party, citing alleged dominance by Lalu Yadav and dissatisfaction with the treatment of Muslims within the party.

In a significant development in Bihar's political landscape, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Lalu Yadav, has faced a major setback as senior party leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Ashfaq Karim tendered his resignation from the party. Karim's departure comes as a blow to the RJD, marking a notable departure from its ranks.

In his resignation letter addressed to RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ashfaq Karim cited his dissatisfaction with the party's handling of Muslim representation and alleged dominance by Lalu Yadav. Expressing his grievances, Karim accused the party leadership of neglecting the interests of Muslims and failing to allocate them a fair share of representation in line with their population demographics.

Karim's letter highlighted his disillusionment with the RJD's approach, stating that the party's failure to ensure adequate Muslim participation made it untenable for him to continue his association. He specifically called out Lalu Yadav, emphasizing the discrepancy between the party's rhetoric on caste census and equitable representation and its actual practices.

This move follows Karim's earlier expressions of discontent with RJD's strategies, particularly regarding candidate selection in the Lok Sabha elections. Despite assurances from the party, Karim was passed over for the Katihar seat, which was allotted to the Congress instead. This decision prompted Karim to question RJD's commitment to its promises and policies, especially concerning Muslim representation.

Prior to his resignation, Ashfaq Karim had voiced concerns over RJD's electoral prospects in key regions like Katihar, Purnia, Araria, and Kishanganj, highlighting a perceived decline in Muslim representation and influence. His decision to step down from the party signifies a significant loss for RJD, underscoring internal discord and dissatisfaction within its ranks.
