Kerala residents unite to raise Rs 34 crore in donations to save Abdul Rahim from a death sentence in Saudi Arabia. Learn how their collective effort is offering hope in this compelling story of community support.

In a remarkable display of unity and generosity, the people of Kerala have rallied together to raise Rs 34 crore in donations to save Abdul Rahim, a native of Kozhikode, from facing execution in Saudi Arabia.

Deadline Looms for 'Blood Money'

Rahim's fate hangs in the balance as he faces an impending deadline of April 18 to pay the hefty sum, known as 'blood money,' to the victim's family in order to avoid the death penalty.

Massive Fundraising Effort

The fundraising effort gained significant momentum within just five days, with the state's action committee initially struggling to raise funds. However, as news of Rahim's plight spread, support poured in from Kerala's diaspora worldwide.

Rahim's Tragic Case

Rahim's ordeal began in 2006 when he was imprisoned in Saudi Arabia following the accidental death of a disabled boy under his care. Despite appeals and legal battles, Rahim was sentenced to death in 2018 after the boy's family declined to grant him clemency.

Community Support and Solidarity

The fundraising campaign received widespread support from over 75 organizations in Riyadh, Kerala-based businessman Bobby Chemmannur, various political groups, and ordinary citizens. Their contributions have been instrumental in reaching the ambitious fundraising target.

Overwhelmed by Generosity

Expressing gratitude, Rahim's mother admitted that she never imagined raising such a substantial amount. She expressed her disbelief, stating, “I had no expectations because we had no means to raise Rs 34 crore.” The community's collective effort has given her newfound hope.

Transparency Ensured

To ensure transparency, the Action Committee developed a mobile application to track and manage donations, ensuring that every contribution was accounted for.

As the deadline approaches, the solidarity and generosity of the Kerala community continue to shine, offering hope for Rahim's salvation from an unjust fate.
