West Singhbhum Police Nabs PLFI Area Commander Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

West Singhbhum District Police achieve a significant breakthrough by apprehending the PLFI area commander, Soma Hembram, and his associate Birsa Khandait, seizing arms and cash.
Before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the West Singhbhum District Police has achieved a significant breakthrough. Reports indicate that the police have apprehended the area commander of the militant organization PLFI, Soma Hembram, along with his associate Birsa Khandait, seizing 2 AK-47 rifles, 3 magazines, 118 bullets, and Rs 50,000 in cash from the border area between Goilkera and Anandpur police stations.
Providing details, SP Ashutosh Shekhar stated that Soma Hembram, alias Najom, the area commander of the banned Naxalite outfit PLFI, was operating in the jungle hill area of the Goilkera police station, accompanied by members of his squad. They were reportedly disrupting ongoing development projects in the Goilkera and Anandpur police station areas, extorting levies from contractors. In response, a team was assembled to take necessary action.
The operation was carried out in the Chitir hill area of the Goilkera police station, with the participation of SAT 57 armed forces. Subsequently, the area commander Choma Hembram, alias Najog, and his associate Birsa Khandait were apprehended. Among the items confiscated from the arrested individuals were 2 AK-47 rifles, 3 magazines, 88 rounds of ammunition, Rs 50,000 in cash, levy receipts, 30 rounds of 315 bore rifle bullets, a Hero motorcycle, and 6 mobile phones.
The Superintendent of Police informed that a case has been filed at the Goilkera police station on April 20. Soma Hembram, aged 24, faces 11 cases registered against him across Bandgaon, Anandpur, Murhu, and Goilkera police stations, while his accomplice Birsa Khandait has three cases filed against him in Sonua, Gudri, and Goilkera police stations.
