Sonakshi Sinha's film career has not been without its share of controversies. Here are some of the most notable incidents:
Kaun Banega Crorepati Incident
In an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 (2019), host Amitabh Bachchan asked Sonakshi a question related to the Ramayana. Sharing the hot seat with Rajasthani artisan Ruma Devi, Sonakshi did not know the answer and had to use a lifeline. The question was, “According to Ramayana, for whom did Hanuman bring Sanjivani booti?” This led to a backlash on social media, with netizens trending #YoSonakshiSoDumb on Twitter. Sonakshi responded with a cryptic post but did not directly address the trolling.
Controversy with Mukesh Khanna
In 2020, Mukesh Khanna, known for his roles in Mahabharat and Shaktimaan, criticized Sonakshi for not knowing the Ramayana question. Sonakshi remained silent, but her father Shatrughan Sinha defended her and criticized Khanna. Later, Mukesh Khanna clarified his comments during a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, stating, “My words were twisted. I have known Shatruji for a long time and I have a lot of respect for him. I only took Sonakshi's name as an example.”
Bhangi Controversy
In 2019, Sonakshi faced backlash from the Valmiki community after allegedly using a derogatory term during a radio show. While speaking with Siddharth Kannan, she mentioned preferring casual clothes at the airport and used a term that offended the Valmiki community. In response, protesters in Moradabad, UP, burned her effigy. Sonakshi later issued a public apology on her Twitter handle.
