Amid the changing political developments in Jharkhand, Hemant Soren met Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday (July 4) along with leaders of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and allies Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The Raj Bhavan has officially invited Hemant Soren to form the government. Hemant Soren is scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy on the morning of July 7.
Governor CP Radhakrishnan Invites Soren to Form Government
JMM General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya confirmed the development. He stated, “On July 7, remembering Lord Jagannath, Hemant Soren’s cabinet will be sworn in during the first prahar (early morning).” The exact location of the swearing-in ceremony has not yet been decided. Regarding the composition of the new cabinet, Bhattacharya mentioned that Chief Minister Hemant Soren will determine the members of his cabinet.
Coalition Government in Jharkhand
Jharkhand is currently governed by a coalition comprising Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Left parties. When Hemant Soren was jailed, Champai Soren was appointed as the Chief Minister in his place. On June 28, the Jharkhand High Court declared Hemant Soren innocent in the alleged land scam case and ordered his release. Following his release, Hemant Soren is set to resume his role as Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Legislature Party Elects Hemant Soren as Leader
The legislature party meeting continued throughout the day on Wednesday. During the meeting, Hemant Soren was re-elected as the leader of the legislature party. It was then decided that Champai Soren would resign and Hemant Soren would stake his claim to form the government. In the evening, Champai Soren visited the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation. Subsequently, Hemant Soren staked his claim to form the government. On Thursday, the Raj Bhavan invited the alliance leaders for discussions.
Alliance Leaders Visit Raj Bhavan
Hemant Soren, accompanied by the leaders of his alliance parties, reached the Raj Bhavan. Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited them to form the government. No statements were made by the leaders upon entering or exiting the Raj Bhavan. However, some leaders from the alliance mentioned that they had received the invitation from the Raj Bhavan and that the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for July 7. Official confirmation from JMM, Congress, or RJD is still pending.
