According to a report by the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in Nematighat Jorhat, Puthimari Kamrup and Pagladiya Nalbari.

The serious flood situation remained in Assam even today. So far more than 5 lakh people have been affected by this flood. This information was given in an official report. Relief and rescue work is going on. Both the state and the central government are keeping an eye on the situation. On the other hand, the Regional Meteorological Department had issued a 'yellow alert' warning on Saturday regarding heavy rain and thundershowers in different parts of the state.

Rivers in spate

According to a report by the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat (Jorhat), Puthimari (Kamrup) and Pagladiya (Nalbari). According to an official report, more than 4.88 lakh people in 16 districts of Assam are currently affected by the floods, while two people have died so far this year. According to the report, the maximum impact of flood has happened in Bajali sub-division.

Millions of people affected

About 2.67 lakh people are affected by the floods here, while 80,000 in Nalbari and 73,000 in Barpeta district are vulnerable. The report said that more than 35,000 people have taken shelter in 140 relief camps, while another 75 relief distribution centers are also functioning. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and local people are cooperating in relief and rescue work.

Disaster in these districts

According to reports, embankments have either been breached or damaged in Biswanath, Darrang and Kokrajhar districts in the last 24 hours. At the same time, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged in various districts including Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Majuli and Nalbari. Apart from this, land erosion has also been observed in Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Udalguri and Tamulpur districts. Reports said that landslides and floods in cities have also been reported from different parts.
