Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Swapnil Nila explains the benefits of the new pension scheme UPS, including assured pension, assured family pension, and assured minimum pension.

Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Dr. Swapnil Nila, recently provided a detailed overview of the new pension scheme, UPS (Universal Pension Scheme), highlighting its multiple benefits for employees. Dr. Nila emphasized that the scheme includes provisions for assured pension, assured family pension, and an assured minimum pension, offering significant financial security to railway employees and their families.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Swapnil Nila explained, ‘The Universal Pension Scheme is designed to ensure financial stability for employees after retirement. One of the key features of this scheme is the assurance of a fixed pension amount, regardless of market fluctuations or economic changes. This assured pension will allow retirees to maintain their standard of living and meet their financial needs comfortably.’

The introduction of an assured family pension is another crucial aspect of the UPS, as it guarantees financial support to the family members of deceased employees. Dr. Nila noted, ‘In the unfortunate event of an employee’s demise, their family will receive a fixed pension amount. This provision ensures that the family does not face financial hardships and can continue to live with dignity.’

The scheme also includes a provision for an assured minimum pension, which sets a floor on the pension amount that an employee can receive. ‘The assured minimum pension is a safeguard for employees who may have had lower earnings during their service period. It ensures that every retiree receives a minimum level of income, which is essential for basic living expenses,’ Dr. Nila added.

Dr. Nila further elaborated on the flexibility and inclusivity of the UPS, stating, ‘The scheme is designed to be flexible, catering to the diverse needs of railway employees. Whether an employee has had a long service tenure or has retired early, the UPS ensures that their financial needs are met. The scheme is also inclusive, covering employees across different cadres and pay scales.’

The introduction of the Universal Pension Scheme is part of Central Railway’s broader initiative to enhance employee welfare and provide comprehensive financial security. The UPS is expected to benefit thousands of railway employees, particularly those approaching retirement age. ‘This scheme is a testament to our commitment to the well-being of our employees. We believe that by ensuring financial security, we are not only supporting our employees but also contributing to a stable and secure future for their families,’ Dr. Nila concluded.

As the Central Railway continues to roll out the UPS, employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the scheme’s provisions and take advantage of the financial benefits it offers. The scheme is set to be a game-changer for railway employees, providing them with peace of mind as they transition into retirement.
