Biparjoy, the first cyclone this year that formed in the Arabian Sea, has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm. It is expected to collide between Gujarat's Kutch district and Pakistan's Karachi by June 15. During this, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 125-135 kmph. IMD has issued a yellow alert for Saurashtra and Kutch on Sunday.

South-South-West, 530 km from Dwarka. South-Southwest, 610 km from Naliya in Kutch. South-South West, 580 km from Mumbai. The west-southwest was centered about 780 km south of Karachi, Pakistan.
Winds can run at a speed of 40-70 kmph

The Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi and Junagadh districts of Gujarat on June 15.
Fishermen warned not to go to sea
The Meteorological Department has advised complete suspension of fishing activities in Saurashtra and Kutch coasts till June 15 and fishermen should not venture into central Arabian Sea and north Arabian Sea and Saurashtra-Kutch coasts from June 12 to 15. instructed to leave. The department said that in view of the above information, the state governments are advised to keep a close vigil in their areas, monitor the situation regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures.
CM Bhupendra held an emergency meeting
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday visited the Emergency Operation Center in the wake of Cyclone Biparjoy. Along with this, he held a meeting with the District Collector and all the officials of the potentially affected area through video conference and gave necessary guidelines.
Union Home Secretary reviewed the preparations
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Sunday reviewed the preparedness of various departments of the Central Government and Gujarat Government to deal with Cyclone Biparjoy. A home ministry spokesperson said the home secretary chaired a meeting of the National Executive Committee to review the preparedness of central ministries, agencies and the Gujarat government to deal with the cyclone. As per the Disaster Management Act, the National Executive Committee is responsible for implementing various policies and plans related to disaster management in the country. Adequate numbers of teams and equipment from the National Disaster Response Force, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard are being deployed to assist in the preparedness, rescue and restoration efforts of the Government of Gujarat.
The spokesperson said that the Gujarat government is taking all precautionary measures to deal with the cyclone and is ready to restore services after the cyclone makes landfall. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Secretary of Gujarat, senior officials of central agencies like India Meteorological Department (IMD) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
It rained in many parts of Maharashtra
Several parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai received rain on Sunday night. An official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. The department said that along with Mumbai, there were strong winds in the coastal areas of the state. He informed that the intensity of cyclone 'Biparjoy' has increased, causing rain in the western parts of the state. Some trees were uprooted due to strong winds in some parts of Mumbai, a civic official said.
