A cabinet proposal will be brought soon for free cylinders on Diwali to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme. Under this scheme, the state government will send Rs 660 to the account of every beneficiary, while Rs 300 is received as subsidy from the central government.

At present there are 1.75 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme in the state. Of these, the accounts of 1.54 beneficiaries are Aadhaar certified, in which the subsidy received from the Central Government is already going. In the first phase, the amount of the scheme will be sent to Aadhaar certified accounts only.

As the bank accounts of the remaining beneficiaries are linked to Aadhaar, they will also get the benefits of the scheme. Once the benefits are given to all the beneficiaries, there will be an expenditure burden of about Rs 1200 crore on the state exchequer.
