In his statement, Dr. Prasad emphasized that the strike was not a decision taken lightly and reflected serious concerns about safety and security within the healthcare system.

”We are doctors. We provide public service and we want to continue our main service. We never want to go on a strike...But the incident at RG Kar was so gruesome and it exposed the safety and security lapses in our health system. So, we had to go on a strike. This was not easy for us. Strike was more difficult for us than duty,” Dr. Prasad explained. His comments underscore the gravity of the situation that led to the strike, which was driven by fears for the safety of medical staff and patients alike.

The incident at RG Kar Hospital, which involved severe safety lapses, highlighted significant issues within the health system that prompted the doctors to take a stand. The gruesome nature of the event brought to light the urgent need for improved safety measures and protective protocols in hospitals. Dr. Prasad’s remarks reflect the frustration and distress experienced by healthcare professionals as they grappled with these safety concerns.

In response to the situation, the Supreme Court intervened by directing the formation of a task force to address the issues raised by the incident. Dr. Prasad expressed appreciation for the Court’s prompt action, stating, ”Supreme Court gave direction and formed a task force...We appreciate this and hope that there will be justice in RG Kar incident...” The task force is expected to investigate the safety lapses and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The involvement of the Supreme Court has been a significant development in the resolution of this crisis, offering hope for a structured and effective response to the safety issues within the healthcare system. Dr. Prasad’s statement reflects a cautious optimism that justice will be served and that improvements will be made to ensure the safety and security of medical personnel.

Dr. Prasad also indicated that the doctors are prepared to resume their duties, stating, ”We will resume our duties at the earliest...” The commitment to returning to work underscores the dedication of medical professionals to their roles and their willingness to continue providing care despite the challenges they have faced.

The strike, while challenging, has brought important safety issues to the forefront, prompting necessary discussions and actions to enhance the protection of healthcare workers. As the situation evolves, the focus remains on ensuring that such incidents are prevented in the future and that the safety and well-being of both medical staff and patients are prioritized.
