The Expert Committee to Review the Notification on Specifications of Degrees under National Education Policy 2020 has suggested new degree nomenclature keeping in view the provisions of multiple entry and exit in higher education, National Credit Framework and The curriculum and credit framework has been envisaged for the undergraduate programme. It would also be appropriate to recognize qualifications at the level of graduate certificate, graduate diploma and postgraduate diploma.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) panel said that a student can be considered for the award of a related qualification such as a certificate, diploma or degree if he secures the required credits for that course. irrespective of the duration of that course or degree program or not completed. In either case, the required number of required credits will need to be earned. However, the degree nomenclature can be modified based on international norms.
The panel proposed a process to introduce new nomenclature of degree courses at any level relevant to contemporary and emerging societal needs. The panel has recommended that a proposal for the same, along with justification, be submitted to the UGC.
The Standing Committee constituted for the purpose will consider the same and make recommendations to the Commission. On approval of the Commission, the new degree nomenclature will be notified by the UGC. This comprehensive list will also include the names of all previously designated degrees for ease of reference and clarity.
