Impact of Pakistan's poor performance in the World Cup, Inzamam Ul Haq resigns from the post of chief selector
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has resigned from the post of chief selector of the senior men's cricket team amid Pakistan's poor performance in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Amidst Pakistan's disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, change has started in Pakistan cricket. On Monday, former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from his role as chief selector midway through the tournament. After Pakistan's fourth consecutive defeat in this World Cup, Inzamam sent his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf.
Pakistan Cricket Board's troubles may increase with the expiry of Inzamam's contract as chief selector. According to Pakistani media reports, Inzamam has not received his salary for six months and after his resignation the board will have to pay him 1.5 crore Pakistani rupees. Inzamam's monthly salary was 25 lakh Pakistani rupees.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process.

Inzamam's dismissal is further complicated by the possibility of his involvement in a conflict of interest. As it turns out, Inzamam is a shareholder in "Yazo International Limited", a company owned by cricketers' agent Talha Rahmani.
Importantly, Rahmani represents some of Pakistan's leading cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Rizwan is also the co-owner of this firm.
After the news of differences between PCB and players regarding the central contract, several revelations were made, after which the uproar started. Tensions reached a fever pitch ahead of the 2023 World Cup, with players considering the possibility of a boycott of commercial activities during the high-profile tournament. One of his demands was that a part of the money received by PCB from ICC should also be given to him.
Inzamam, who shares his agent with leading Pakistani cricketers, came forward to mediate and promised to resolve the dispute within 48 hours. With his intervention the deadlock was resolved and the demands of all the players were accepted. Because of this, Inzamam's involvement in the contract dispute and his potential conflict of interest affected his role as chief selector.
