India has expressed concern over reports of shelling near a used fuel storage facility of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Ukraine. He called for mutual restraint to ensure the security of nuclear facilities. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said, "We are carefully observing developments regarding the defense and security of Ukraine's nuclear power reactors and facilities. India attaches utmost importance to ensuring the safety and security of these stations, as any accident involving nuclear stations can have serious consequences for people's health and the environment.

In her address to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Ukraine, Ruchira Kamboj said that India expresses its concern over reports of shelling near the used fuel storage facility of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. "We call for mutual restraint so that the safety and security of nuclear facilities is not threatened," he said in an open meeting at the Security Council on the status of the Zaporizhzhya plant.

Serious concern about the Zaporizhzhya plant in Ukraine

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi told a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting that on August 5, Europe's largest Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was shelled, causing several explosions near electrical switchboards. And the power went off. Ukraine has informed the IAEA that 10 of the country's 15 nuclear power reactors—two at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Plant, three at the Rivne NPP, three at the South Ukraine NPP and two at the Khmelnitsky NPP—are currently grid-connected. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed serious concern about the situation in and around the Zaporizhzhya plant in southern Ukraine and urged all concerned to exercise "discretion" and not take any such action. which could endanger the safety or security of a nuclear power plant.
