Israel Ambassador Reuven Azar Responds to Lebanon Pager Blast and Hezbollah Attack
Israel Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, addresses the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah and the implications of the Lebanon pager blast, while emphasizing the need for a peaceful solution to allow displaced Israelis to return home.

In the wake of rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, addressed the situation surrounding the Lebanon pager blast and the subsequent accusations against Israel. The diplomat emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Israeli citizens and condemned Hezbollah’s recent aggressive actions.
“We are very keen on getting our population back to their homes in northern Israel. They have been removed from their cities as a result of the completely unprovoked attack of Hezbollah from Lebanon since 8th October,” said Ambassador Azar, while expressing concern over the displacement of many Israeli citizens due to the escalating conflict.
Hezbollah’s Aggression and Israel’s Response
The situation has been tense since Hezbollah initiated attacks from Lebanon earlier this month. The unprovoked assaults have forced thousands of Israelis from their homes in the northern region, leaving towns and cities near the border vulnerable to further strikes. The conflict has led to accusations from Hezbollah, placing the blame on Israel for the recent Lebanon pager blast, a claim that Israel has firmly denied.
Ambassador Azar refuted these allegations and reiterated that Israel’s primary focus is the safety of its citizens. “We are looking forward to a solution that will allow our population to go back to their settlements and cities,” he remarked. The ambassador made it clear that for such a resolution to materialize, certain conditions must be met, including Hezbollah’s withdrawal from key areas.
Call for Implementation of UN Resolution 1701
To restore peace and stability in the region, Ambassador Azar emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for Hezbollah to retreat northward to the Litani River. The resolution, adopted after the 2006 Lebanon War, aims to reduce hostilities and establish a framework for maintaining peace along the Israel-Lebanon border.
“For that to happen, Hezbollah forces will have to move north to the Litani River and implement UN Security Council resolution 1701,” Azar explained, urging international efforts to enforce the resolution as a crucial step toward de-escalating the conflict. He also highlighted that the resolution is a vital instrument to ensure that Hezbollah does not pose an immediate threat to Israeli border towns.
The Way Forward
Israel remains committed to defending its citizens while seeking diplomatic solutions to the crisis. Ambassador Azar expressed hope that the international community, including the United Nations, would take more definitive action to resolve the conflict. He urged for continued dialogue and cooperation to prevent further loss of life and restore normalcy to the region.
The situation remains fluid, with Israel closely monitoring developments along its northern border. As the conflict with Hezbollah continues to unfold, the global community is watching with concern, hoping that diplomatic efforts can lead to a lasting resolution and the safe return of displaced Israeli citizens to their homes.
For now, Israel’s focus is on securing peace and stability, while maintaining its stance against any external threats posed by Hezbollah and other militant groups operating in the region.
