Union Minister JP Nadda calls for a 12-hour Bengal bandh in response to the ‘Nabanna Abhiyaan’ rally in Kolkata, aiming to challenge Mamata Banerjee’s government.

In a significant political move, Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda announced a 12-hour Bengal bandh starting from 6 am tomorrow. This call comes in response to the ongoing ‘Nabanna Abhiyaan’ rally in Kolkata, which has seen widespread participation from BJP supporters across the state. The bandh is intended as a protest against what the BJP describes as the oppressive governance of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Speaking at the rally, Nadda stated, “Keeping in mind the sentiments of the common citizens, Bharatiya Janata Party has called for a Bengal bandh for 12 hours from 6 am tomorrow. I am confident that the people of Bengal will stand with us and will leave no stone unturned to shatter the pride of Mamata Banerjee and create an environment to overthrow such an oppressive government.” His remarks were met with cheers from the crowd, reflecting the growing unrest among BJP supporters in the state.

The ‘Nabanna Abhiyaan’ rally, aimed at marching to the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’, was marked by tension and confrontation between BJP workers and the West Bengal police. The rally, which started peacefully, soon escalated as police tried to prevent the crowd from reaching Nabanna. Tear gas, water cannons, and barricades were employed by the authorities to disperse the protesters, leading to clashes in several parts of Kolkata.

Nadda condemned the use of force by the state administration, accusing Mamata Banerjee’s government of stifling democratic protests and silencing dissent. He further alleged that the state government was afraid of the growing support for the BJP in West Bengal, especially as the party continues to gain ground in the region. “This bandh is not just a protest; it is a warning to Mamata Banerjee. The people of Bengal are fed up with her authoritarian regime and are ready for change,” Nadda asserted.

The call for a bandh has sparked debates across political circles in West Bengal, with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) condemning the move. TMC leaders have accused the BJP of attempting to disrupt the peace and stability of the state, particularly during a time when the region is grappling with various challenges. In response to the bandh, the West Bengal government has issued a notification stating that no official holiday will be declared, and strict action will be taken against those who fail to report to work.

Mamata Banerjee, known for her strong stance against bandhs, has criticized the BJP’s decision, labeling it as a tactic to create unrest. She reiterated her commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and ensuring that the lives of ordinary citizens are not disrupted by political agendas. “This is nothing but an attempt by the BJP to destabilize West Bengal. But the people of Bengal are wise enough to see through their plans,” Banerjee remarked.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on how the bandh will be observed tomorrow and what impact it will have on the political landscape of West Bengal. The BJP is hopeful that the bandh will galvanize support against the TMC government, while the TMC is determined to maintain its stronghold in the state. The coming hours will be crucial in determining the outcome of this intense political standoff.
