Information has been given by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar regarding the encounter. He has said that all the three terrorists killed are local, their links are related to terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. One of them has been identified as Junaid Shirgojri, who was involved in the murder of Riyaz Ahmed, who was martyred on May 13.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar further said that the other two terrorists have been identified as Fazil Nazir Bhat and Irfan Malik of Pulwama district. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including two AK-47 rifles and a pistol have been recovered. Earlier, a police spokesman had said that the search operation was launched by the security forces on the basis of strong information about the hiding of a terrorist in Khandipura area of ​​Kulgam. During the search operation, the hiding terrorist started firing indiscriminately on the security forces and the terrorist was killed in retaliation by the security forces.

People from nearby were evacuated to safer places

The spokesman said that the security forces first moved people from around the encounter site to safer places. The terrorist killed in the encounter has been identified as Rasik Ahmed Ghani, a member of the banned terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen and a resident of Kulgam, whose body was recovered from the encounter site. The spokesman said that as per police records, the slain terrorist was involved in several terrorist incidents, including attacks on police and other security forces.

One jawan also injured in the encounter

Security forces recovered a .303 rifle including incriminating material, arms and ammunition, 23 cartridges, a pistol and 31 cartridges and a hand grenade etc. from the encounter site. The spokesperson said that all the recovered items have been taken in the case record for further investigation. An army officer said that a jawan was also injured in the encounter. The injured soldier was taken to the Army's 92 Base Hospital here, where his condition is said to be stable, the official said.
