Manipur violence: Contingents of Assam Rifles have been deployed at National Sports University and K Munlai in violence-hit Manipur. The decision was taken by the Army on Thursday morning after automatic weapons firing was heard from several directions towards Harothel village. According to sources, two companies of Assam Rifles were immediately deployed.

It is being told that on Thursday morning, the army heard the sound of automatic weapons from several directions towards Harothel village. This was followed by immediate action by the Army, as a result of which the situation was brought under control. Later, while conducting operations in the area, the security forces faced mob interference, which was effectively controlled.
According to sources, intermittent firing between the groups was again heard at around 4 pm, but the situation was brought under control due to quick response. Thereafter, at around 5.15 pm, firing was reported from the direction of village Bethel, south of the National Sports University. Army troops have been deployed to maintain peace in the area. The situation is being monitored. Presently the situation is under control.
