New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has alleged that the BJP-led central government is "silently" trying to provide "permanent housing" to Rohingya refugees in the national capital. He rejected the claim of the Union Home Ministry that the Delhi government had made a proposal in this regard. He said the central government was hailing the announcement in the morning to shift Rohingya refugees to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category flats in the city as an achievement, but when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) objected to it, it later Started putting the responsibility of this on the Delhi government.

Decision taken on the instructions of LG

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, without naming anyone, alleged that the Delhi Police and some officials took the decision to provide permanent accommodation to Rohingyas in the city on the instructions of Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena and at the behest of the central government. They said they were sending the proposal for Saxena's approval without bringing it to the notice of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Delhi Home Minister. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Kejriwal government will not allow this 'conspiracy' to illegally settle Rohingyas in Delhi.

Home Ministry denied

When a dispute arose in this regard, the Ministry of Home Affairs, while issuing an explanation, denied to take any such step. It said the Delhi government had proposed to send the Rohingyas to a new destination, but directed to ensure that "illegal foreign migrants" would stay in the camps pending their extradition.

Efforts to give permanent shelter to Rohingya in Delhi

Responding to the statement of the ministry, Sisodia tweeted that the news that the central government was not tired of telling its achievement early in the morning, after being opposed by the Aam Aadmi Party, is now shifting the responsibility on the Delhi government. The reality is that the central government was secretly trying to provide permanent shelter to the Rohingyas in Delhi.

Will not let the conspiracy to settle Rohingya in Delhi succeed

The controversy erupted after Union Urban and Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that Rohingya refugees would be sent to live in some apartments in outer Delhi's Bakkarwala and would also be provided with basic facilities and police protection.
