The central government had announced the sickle cell mission in the general budget this year.

To free the country from the blood disorder sickle cell, the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission will be launched soon. Under this, more than seven crore patients present in more than 200 districts of 17 states of the country will be examined free of cost.

The central government had announced the sickle cell mission in the general budget this year. According to information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was about to start this mission from Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, but due to some reasons this program had to be cancelled. Earlier, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday that tribal areas have the highest number of sickle cell patients. People do not even know much about this hereditary disease, due to which their children are also born with this disease. To break this chain of disease, health teams will go door-to-door in every gram panchayat and do free check-up.

Sickle cell card will be given to the family if found positive... Under the mission, if a person is found positive in the test, he will be given a sickle cell genetic status card, which can be used for treatment.

Most patients in these states According to the Ministry of Health, there are about seven crore sickle cell patients in 278 districts of 17 states. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

Sickle cell disease is affecting more women and children. About 20% of tribal children die by the age of two and 30% are dying before reaching adulthood. In India, the disease is more prevalent in tribal groups and affects one in every 86 children.
