PM Modi Urges Peaceful Resolution in Israel-Gaza Conflict During Talks with PM Netanyahu
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls for peaceful resolution in the Israel-Gaza conflict, emphasizing dialogue, diplomacy, and humanitarian aid during his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a significant diplomatic exchange on Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he strongly advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The conversation came amid heightened tensions in the region, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, expressing his concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza. He called for the immediate release of all hostages, a ceasefire, and the continuation of humanitarian aid to those affected by the war. “We discussed the current situation in West Asia and reiterated the need for improvement. I called for the immediate release of all hostages, a ceasefire, and the continuation of humanitarian aid,” Modi shared on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), following his discussion with Netanyahu.
The Indian Prime Minister’s appeal reflects his consistent stance on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts. In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) after the conversation, it was noted that Modi had reiterated his call for a swift and peaceful resolution to the conflict through diplomatic channels. “He [Modi] called for a prompt and peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,” the statement read.
The conversation also provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss broader aspects of bilateral cooperation and ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Israel. According to the PMO, the leaders touched upon various aspects of bilateral cooperation and agreed to maintain ongoing communication on these matters.
Netanyahu had initiated the call to extend his greetings on India’s 78th Independence Day, during which he also shared updates on the situation in Gaza. Modi’s response was both a reflection of India’s foreign policy stance and a reaffirmation of his earlier calls for peace in the region.
The conversation between the two leaders coincided with the start of a new round of peace talks aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. These talks, which began on Thursday, are being led by international mediators, including the United States. The White House National Security Spokesman, John Kirby, confirmed that the talks are focused on halting the Israel-Hamas war and securing the release of a significant number of hostages held in Gaza.
The ongoing war in Gaza, which began on October 7 when Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, has resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 people, most of whom were civilians. Additionally, around 250 individuals were taken hostage and brought into Gaza. The conflict has since escalated, leading to the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians in the region.
As the international community looks for ways to de-escalate the situation, Prime Minister Modi’s call for dialogue and diplomacy highlights the critical role of peaceful negotiations in resolving such conflicts. His emphasis on humanitarian aid and the release of hostages underscores India’s commitment to global peace and stability, particularly in regions plagued by conflict.
With the situation in Gaza remaining tense, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic efforts, supported by leaders like PM Modi, can bring about a much-needed ceasefire and pave the way for a lasting peace in the region.
